Diet and exercise are the two most thought-about methods when we think about weight loss and body appearance, and of course, that makes sense, as what you eat and how you move are essential to your body's appearance and ability to carry out its daily functions. But these are not the only things that should be considered, and you could be missing out if you are not giving attention to other factors, and one of these factors is light exposure.

When we think about being healthy, we should consider whether we are getting enough sleep, sunlight, movement, and water, to name a few. A balance of these factors helps our body perform at a cellular level, allowing us to look and feel our absolute best. When we aren't functioning well in one or more of these areas, our bodies can experience hard-to-pinpoint inflammation. As most know, operating daily can be a struggle when we don't physically and mentally feel well. Pain and inflammation are significant contributors to our feeling of wellness and our body's ability to lose weight (when needed).

Inflammation is a normal part of our body's processes, but excess inflammation can lead to weight gain. Exercising to eliminate that weight when already inflamed can work against you. To keep that inflammation in check, eating well, getting adequate sleep, hydration, and healthy light exposure during the day can help your body work at its optimal level…and this is where red-light therapy can come into play.

Many of you have heard of blue light and how it can harm your body, but the red light is another color that positively affects the body. If you haven't heard of red-light therapy (RLT), it is a simple, non-invasive treatment that delivers wavelengths of red and near-infrared (NIR) to the skin and cells. These wavelengths have been shown to stimulate the mitochondria of the cells. They optimize the cellular respiration process that makes ATP (adenosine triphosphate) energy, which increases function, speeds healing, and lowers inflammation & pain, as demonstrated in numerous peer-reviewed studies [1].

One of the significant advantages of RLT is that it can be targeted to specific parts of the body, unlike pain medication that affects your entire body, and can be used for several conditions from tendon pain, healing bone after a fracture, joint and muscle pain, psoriasis and arthritis. While medications can help reduce pain and are sometimes necessary, RLT is a safer alternative that can be completed in the comfort of your home.
